In order to construct the new Sixth Street Viaduct between Boyle Heights and Downtown Los Angeles, the City of Los Angeles needed to acquire land to accommodate the alignment of the new viaduct. After completion of the viaduct, there will be 12 acres of open space under the viaduct stretching over 3,500 feet across the Los Angeles River. The project, estimated to cost over $20M, will include a variety of amenities on both sides of the river. The Arts District side will include the Len Hill Arts Plaza, a dog park, and acres of green space. The Boyle Heights side will include new soccer fields, a dog park, picnic area, basketball court, playground, and splash pad.
